Field survey campaign for HyQ project

Feasibility study for Hydro-meteorological Stations Network in Romania

Beneficiary: Galati Lower Danube River Administration, A.A.

Year of implementation: 2015

Our company acted as local representative and assistant to the Communication Expert in the project of preparing a Feasibility Study for the Development of a Hydrometric Stations Network along the Danube in Romania (HyQ).

In this assignment, financed through CEF programme, RFiD Solutions was partner with iC consulenten Ziviltechniker GesmbH and the National Institute of Hydrology and Water Management in Romania to prepare a complete feasibility study that would extend the monitoring network along the Danube to 64 locations and multiple parameters (water level, water temperature, discharge and current speed, visibility, air temperature, wind speed and direction and waves’ characteristics).

RFiD Solutions’ tasks under this assignment was:

  • Compile and analyze the complete legislation;
  • Perform communication parameters’ measurements during the field visits;
  • Assist in the preparation of the Status-quo Report, The Equipment Study and the Communication Study (a redundant communication network was designed using GSM and governmental TETRA network);
  • Prepare all the documentation required for permits and approvals.

The result of the feasibility was an automated network that would cover the entire stretch of the Danube in Romania, from Bazias to Sulina (and the other branches), and measure up to 12 parameters each 15 minutes in the most complex locations. The value of the project was estimated to more than 4 million EUR.

The Beneficiary started implementing this project in 2019 through a pilot of 10 hydro-metric stations, which replaced and modernized the existing network installed by our company in 2012 and 2013.
